I think I have helped place 20-30 puppies this year. And the best part is meeting some really super cool people. It is always nice to meet new people who love the breed. Some the people keep in contact with me and I watch their new buddy grow and some I never hear from. Obviously I prefer the people who stay in contact but it is not a requirement.
What I find interesting are the people who put thought into their emails to me – they tell me about themselves, their life and really seem to have spent time learning about the breed. Sometimes it is a person trying to learn about the breed which is also very cool.
The people I always wonder about and NEVER hear back from are the one line requests like “Do you have puppies” or “How much?” I always try and respond to all requests but these really don’t convey any interest in the breed or interest in finding the best puppy. Lots of breeders take these kind of responses and file them in the trash. I don’t, but I don’t blame them.
The other strange ones are the unrealistic expectations – specific color, gender, house trained and not only show quality but good enough to Special. And usually for $500. Not only would you need a crystal ball at eight weeks but if you did YOU WOULD NOT SELL IT.
I am not saying having specific request are wrong – they just may take longer to find. I know I have wanted a black tri female FOREVER yet I don’t have one – just has not worked out. People who want something specific will just need to understand the right puppy may take a bit longer.
